West Ham United Statement

West Ham United are delighted to announce that Dimitri Payet has signed a new long-term contract with the Club.

The outstanding France playmaker, who has made a huge impact in Claret and Blue since arriving from Marseille last summer, has penned a deal until the summer of 2021.

The 28-year-old, who has scored six Barclays Premier League goals, chalked up six assists and averages a formidable 3.7 key passes per game, is delighted to have pledged his long-term future to the Club.

"For me it's a big step, an enormous show of faith, particularly from the Chairman [David] Sullivan and from the manager," said the popular No27. "I thank them for that, and I am proud and I'm happy to prolong the adventure with West Ham.

"I've said it several times, I feel good here, everyone's done all that they can to make me feel good. I want to help West Ham grow and, once again, this new contract shows my desire and motivation to fulfil those objectives."

Payet has become an instant fans’ favourite since joining the Hammers in June 2015, earning widespread praise and respect and becoming the subject of English football’s newest and best terrace chant!

After assisting Enner Valencia’s goal on his debut in the UEFA Europa League draw with Romanians Astra Giurgiu at the Boleyn Ground on 30 July, the Reunion-born attacking midfielder quickly took the Barclays Premier League by storm.

On the opening weekend, his free-kick provided Cheikhou Kouyate’s goal in the stunning 2-0 win at Arsenal.

A fine first goal arrived against Leicester City on 15 August, followed by two more attention-grabbing strikes in the home win over Newcastle United in September.

After assisting in West Ham’s next two games, Payet bagged two more goals to secure a draw at Sunderland and clinch a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.

That series of magnificent performances saw the 15-times capped player linked with a return to international action, and Payet will hope to force his way into Les Bleus squad for Euro 2016 over the closing months of his first season in Claret and Blue.

The No27 was unfortunately side-lined by a late challenge in the home draw with Everton in mid-November, but returned to fitness and form with a truly magnificent free-kick and another assist for Valencia in the 3-1 win at AFC Bournemouth last month.

Having laid on yet another important goal as Angelo Ogbonna nodded the Hammers into the Emirates FA Cup fifth round at Liverpool’s expense on Tuesday evening, Payet has signed a new deal that will see him inspire West Ham into their new Stadium and beyond.

No surprise this comes out on the morning of the cup tie.

Scouse reporter unsettling tactics.

Anyway, can't we afford it now?

Surely agreeing to a pay rise will send out a message that we now want to compete at a higher level?

Well if we want a player of his class we cannot expect to pay him less than Andy Carroll.

I think his client needs to prove himself over a slightly longer period before we agree to double his wages.

And he's our top goalscorer so far this season.

If we have ambitions to be a top side with the best players then we are going to have to pay the going rate... unfortunately £125k is the going rate for a player of Payet's ability.

Still think that the story is all paper bollocks though... it's the Mirror after all.

No one knows how much Andy Carroll is on except the club and Andy Carroll and I'm the first to be critical of him.

I looked at this earlier, and the first thought in my head was NON STORY.

It's not only in the mirror

He'll get a rise, probably at the end of the season, but it won't be to 125 I wouldn't think. Probably just the scouse media shoehorning it in before tonight.

We'll have money to burn because of the athletics stadium anyway, apparently, so won't be a problem

I don't think it's a non story. It sounds like an agent leaked it. They might not even be his official agent. Agents are like vultures.

Still even if it's true, it's ridiculous. We cant ruin our wage structure. We dont have endless pots of money.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week...
I would imagine there's some truth in it, any agent worth his salt would be looking for more money for his player after making such an impact in his first season. I doubt it's as ruthless as the Mirror are making out though.

Griff

The Superbowl is also meant to be providing affordable football and returning a good rate of return to the taxpayer "in the Queen's name".

It clearly is magical.

It's not an athletics stadium.

It's a multi purpose iconic sporting arena.

Do get it right.

Well everyone is saying he is as good as the boggle eyed arsenal cunt so i guess he deserves the same money, we keep talking him up as a club so we had better pay up or he'll be off.
